The Georgian Bay Cycle For Hope
Penetanguishene Ride Routes

The Georgian Bay Cycle for Hope in Penetanguishene returns on August 15, 2026, as part of the 15th annual Cycle for Hope fundraising event. With five scenic routes ranging from the relaxed 3km Family Friendly Ice Cream Route to the challenging 110km ride, there is an option for riders of all ages and experience levels. Whether you are looking to take on a longer distance, enjoy a scenic trail ride, or simply dust off your bike for a fun ride with family and friends, every kilometre helps support an important cause.

Endurance Route - 110km

The 110km Route is the most challenging ride offered from Penetanguishene and is ideal for experienced road cyclists looking to test their endurance. Riders will travel along quiet country roads through Awenda Provincial Park, tackling a 1.2-kilometre climb before continuing through the communities of Thunder Beach, Lafontaine, and Balm Beach. With challenging climbs, stunning rural landscape views, and a well-earned rest stop along the way, this route offers a rewarding ride through some of the most scenic countryside in the region.

Resilience Route - 75km

The 75km Route offers a rewarding challenge for cyclists looking to take on a longer distance while enjoying some of the area’s most scenic roads. Riders will travel through Awenda Provincial Park and take on a 1.2-kilometre climb before continuing through the communities of Thunder Beach and Lafontaine. With a satisfying climb, beautiful rural landscapes, and a rest stop to recharge along the way, this route is a great option for riders looking to push themselves while enjoying the ride.

Strength Route - 50km

The 50km Route provides a balanced ride for cyclists looking for a solid challenge without taking on the longest distances. Riders will travel through Awenda Provincial Park and take on a 1.2-kilometre climb before continuing through the community of Lafontaine along quiet country roads. Featuring a mixture of rolling rural countryside, scenic vistas, and a rest stop to recharge, this route offers an engaging ride through one of the region’s most beautiful areas.

Support Route - 25km

The 25km Route is a relaxed and scenic ride that is well-suited for cyclists looking for a comfortable distance while enjoying the natural surroundings of the area. Starting at the Penetanguishene waterfront, riders will follow the Tiny Rail Trail toward Wyevale before turning around and returning to Penetanguishene along the same trail. Much of the ride takes place on the gravel trail, with short inclines and declines and sections of limestone screening that require some care. Suitable for a variety of bicycle types, this route offers a pleasant out-and-back ride along one of the area’s most well-known trails.

Hope Route - 10km

The 10km Route is perfect for casual cyclists, families, and those looking for a shorter and more relaxed ride. Beginning at the Penetanguishene waterfront, riders will travel through town on a scenic route out to Discovery Harbour before returning to the starting area. This enjoyable ride offers a great opportunity to experience the local scenery, enjoy the companionship of fellow riders, and take part in the Cycle for Hope at a comfortable pace.

Family Route - 3km

The Ice Cream Route is our All Ages and All Abilities option, designed so everyone can take part in Cycle for Hope. Whether you choose to ride a bike, walk, rollerblade, or travel by scooter, this relaxed route is all about participation and community. Participants will wind their way along the path to the Dock Lunch restaurant, where a delicious ice cream awaits before heading back. It’s a fun and welcoming way to be part of the event while supporting those impacted by cancer in our community.

I lost my mother to Colon Cancer and I was diagnosed with an osteosarcoma on my right pelvic bone. When I was diagnosed I felt fear. Fear of dying and not being around to enjoy my grandkids who are so young… not being remembered by my grandchildren. Fear of all the treatments. I struggled with feeling alone, with daily pain, with feeling like an outsider and being labelled. Trying not to be bothered by people staring at you in pity because you limp so badly. Having a place where I don’t feel like an outsider has had such an impact. Connecting with others who truly understand what you feel, and who offer support and encouragement has been so important. You travel so much for treatment and appointments and surgeries that it is important to have support close to home. Thank you, Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre for the difference you make! You really give people Hope!

Lori Chatham — Collingwood, ON

Having been a cancer patient, I am acutely aware of the impact cancer has on an individual and family’s emotional, physical and financial well being. As a cancer survivor, I look back at how much I relied on the strength and resources of my family and friends in the absence of available Cancer Support Services in the Collingwood area during and after my treatments. I am honoured to be associated with the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre because I know how vital these services are and how they will bring comfort and hope to anyone impacted by cancer in the Southern Georgian Bay area.
